Call for Directors!
Essex Community Players is seeking directors for V-Day, a one weekend performance of The Vagina Monologues to be held in February, 2018 in Essex, Vermont. We will be donating 100% of the proceeds to charities supporting women – 90% of our proceeds will go to Planned Parenthood and 10% to the V-Day Spotlight Campaign: The Resistance.
V-Day is grounded in 4 core beliefs:
1. Art has the power to transform consciousness and inspire people to act
2. Lasting social cultural change is spread by ordinary people doing extraordinary things
3. Local women best know what their communities need and can become unstoppable leaders
4. One must look at the intersection of race, class, and gender to understand violence against women
We are seeking directors who identify as female, genderqueer, or non-binary to join us in creating this event. Experienced directors are welcome, and we wish to strongly encourage new directors to consider applying. Each director will work with 1-5 performers on their individual monologues and will work closely with the other directors and executive director to put together the production as a whole.
To apply, please submit a brief statement of why you are interested in participating in this project as a director. We are interested in understanding *your* story. Maybe you’ve always wanted to direct and this seems like the perfect place to start. Maybe you’ve seen this show and were moved by it. Maybe you just want to stand up and say “Me, too.”
Please email your statements to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than 12/31/17 for consideration. If you have any theatre experience, on or off the stage, please include that with your statement. Directing experience is not required.
Auditions for performers will be held on January 8th and 9th in Essex – keep an eye on the Essex Community Players facebook page for an audition event coming soon with details including time and location. We will be seeking performers who identify as female, genderqueer, or non-binary to audition for this show.
Anyone who is interested in getting involved in the production – including men – are very welcome to email our team at email@example.com. If you’re interested in anything from set, to lighting, to front of house, we can find a place for you on our team. Please include “Vagina Monologues” in your subject line.
We can’t wait to hear from you!
Nan Murat, Executive Director
